Bergen County does have a restriction on retail shopping on Sunday called the Blue Laws. 

This law was enacted in 1986 by Governor Tom Kean whereas it prohibits the shopping of certain goods on Sundays. It is important to note, this restriction is only for Bergen County Malls, so the other 23 malls New Jersey’s offers are open to the public on Sundays. Bergen County offers tons of activities for children, families, and singles such as meticulously kept parks, pools, hiking trails, petting zoo, farmers market, golfing, tennis, community theatres’, dancing, biking and so much more. Bergen County was one of the first four original counties of New Jersey.

Bergen County’s Park system totals nearly 9,000 acres.

Before Dutch and English colonists came, Bergen County was inhabited by Native American people of the Lenape nation. Some of their descendants are still here as part of the Ramapo Mountain Indian tribe, recognized in 1980.

While the origin of Bergen’s name is debated, it is often attributed to the Dutch word meaning “hill” or “place of safety.”

U.S. News & World Report continued to recognize the Bergen County Academies in Hackensack as one of the Best High Schools in the United States!
